Our discussion is on the International Bill of Rights – (3 parts) including: the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted in 1948 after WWII, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social & Cultural Rights (ICESCR). The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, is a “multilateral treaty” adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1966, and put in force in March 1976. Yet, the Trump State Department is weakening the rapport with both the international community, while exacerbating the international norms.

Discussion centers upon how the concept of corporate personhood, an artificial artifice to enable corporations to extract the benefits that humans do, the right to vote, the right to give money to big business interests and the right to have a very loud voice at the table–something that would not be possible without the title of “corporate personhood.” Yet, this artifice did not come about by happenstance. The historical underpinnings was a well-choreographed effort by an attorney for Big Tobacco who made his way to the US Supreme Court during the Nixon administration. That justice, not only took his corporate prejudices to the bench, but wrote a “playbook” that was utilized to spark renewed interest in corporate personhood, and was a leading catalyst to breathe renewed life into the case of Citizen United–allowing big money to infiltrate the political process to favor corporations and big business.
Most troubling for the democracy, the “Justice” withheld his “playbook” information from the confirmation hearings–an all too important reminder why “full disclosure” and open discussion is imperative to Judicial Confirmation Hearings. Attorney Cleveland identified numerous reasons why ethical accountability and full disclosure into judicial confirmation hearings is critical–and it must be overhauled to ensure that nominees have and will be accountable to the American people and not beholding to corporate interests. With the polarization now in Congress and the recent US Supreme Court partisan hearing–there is no doubt that reform is in order to save the American democracy.

Dr. Seneff’s research has identified a number of correlations between the widely-used herbicide “glyphosate” also known as “Roundup” used on many food crops and now believed to be linked to many modern-day diseases. This diseases range from auto-immune to MS to Cancer. The recent legal case in the US against the makers of Roundup, Monsanto, has supported Dr. Seneff’s claims about a causal link. The first case of its kind against the herbicide maker, Monsanto, the jury awarded the dying father, Dewayne Johnson, a groundskeeper who routinely used the herbicide and suffering with non-hodgkins lymphoma with over $200 million, mostly in punitive damages against the herbicide maker. Punitive damages, not routinely awarded, send a powerful message that the jury found significant wrongdoing to the maker of the herbicide. Monsanto is appealing the verdict.
Additionally, Dr. Seneff has also identified correlations with toxic algae blooms she correlates to wide-spread use of glyphosate on sugarcane fields in the state of Florida. As a seasoned MIT researcher, her work is at the intersection of human biophysics and data analysis. She has conducted extensive analysis of data from studies conducted on these very topics.Dr. Seneff has coauthored numerous white-papers and has given numerous testimonies and lectures. Throughout American history, these deprivations of personal rights stand eternal as grave reminders of the effects of overreaching and overzealous government and bureaucrats. Notably, these home-grown indignities greatly tarnished the American reputation for liberty and personal freedoms–serving as a template for the Nazi use of ‘experimentation’ in their internment camps during WWII (1939-1945). During the Nuremberg trials during WWII, the Nazi’s referred to their torturous and barbaric behavior as ‘medical experiments’ and used the American indignities on its own people as justification for leniency in the trial of their War Criminals during WWII. There can be doubt these cases stand as irreverent reminders of our nations darker past, and color the view of America in the international community. Our history here stands in stark contrast to the American values of liberty and freedom for all its people. Today, America is once again at a crossroads–legislators making choices for the individual, or for the common good. Yet these choices appear to be founded upon the same pillars of those in our history. Protecting Society for the’ Greater Good’ has proven to have Greatly Failed. That burden and seriously tarnish our history and our Constitution–it has usurped our Personal Rights and Liberties.
Now, the American government engages in its own justification of another assault upon its own people–now doing so under the guise of Promoting Public Health–Mandating Vaccines, and Curtailing Vaccine Exemptions. Along the 400 mile route of pipeline would also be compressor stations–to consume a 100 foot swath of land and private property in its path–with the effect of diminishing land and home values affecting their saleability, insurability, and jeopardizing covenants of mortgaged property. The premise of the gas pipeline proposal is to bring additional energy to the region for home use and electricity generation–while at same time the energy company states its goal is to also export the gas it brings to outside the US. However, to export would bring higher profits to the energy company–while bringing substantial costs to the local environment and every rate payer in the region.
With the laws of Supply & Demand in the Balance–the end result could very well be higher costs for US rate payers once exports are increased. Discussion will include what the energy data needs assessments really show are the current and projected energy needs of the region, while addressing best practices on how those energy needs can be met. With climate change looming and terrorism in the news, renewable energy is now making its way into the forefront of clean energy generation–now is the time for discussion on how to put those new energy measures to work. Dr. McCarthy is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences; Past President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the AAAS, our Nation’s Largest Scientific Association; and Current Chair of the Board of Directors for the Union of Concerned Scientists. Additionally, Dr. McCarthy served as the first chair of the international committee that establishes research priorities and oversees implementation of the International Geosphere – Biosphere Program (IGBP); Founding Editor for the American Geophysical Union’s Global Biogeochemical Cycles. For the past two decades Dr. McCarthy has worked as an author, reviewer, and as a co-chair with the Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). For the Third IPCC Assessment, he headed Working Group II, which had responsibilities for assessing impacts of and vulnerabilities to global climate change. He was also one of the lead authors on the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, and a Vice-Chair of the 2007 Northeast Climate Impacts Assessment. Dr. McCarthy is also the Recipient of the New England Aquarium’s David B. Stone award for distinguished service to the environment and the community. Dr. Jorgenson–past President of the American Economic Association in 2000–and named a Distinguished Fellow of the Association in 2001. He served as a Founding Member of the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy of the National Research Council in 1991; and Chairman of its Board from 1998 to 2006. Additionally, he served as Chairman of Section 54, Economic Sciences, of the National Academy of Sciences from 2000 to 2003; in addition to holding office as President of the Econometric Society in 1987. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, and has authored more than 36 books and 300 articles on Economics. He most recently co-authored, Double Dividend: Environmental Taxes and Fiscal Reform in the United States. Discussion will focus on the issue of climate change, recent EPA rulings, in addition to economic productivity and the overwhelming need to minimize economic loss. With the increase in the frequency and intensity of violent storms, extreme weather conditions–as well as arid growing conditions–business and industry must brace for the additional costs of lost productivity, loss of property, loss of life, and increase in insurance costs that may drive prices higher than ever anticipated by consumers and CEO’s. Yet, the cost of doing nothing about climate change is no longer a viable option–as insurers refuse to underwrite high-risk areas of the country as well as the most vulnerable industries. Unlike the past, costs of rebuilding infrastructures may no longer be be borne by the government to reestablish communities devastated by coastal storms, inland hurricanes and tornadoes–especially where insurers had refused to underwrite them and Congress has not appropriated monies to rebuild. Whether acknowledged or not–climate change is here to stay..and policymakers need to stop that debate and start finding solutions to manage its affects.
